Food Truck Gathering in Downtown Baltimore

The owners of the myriad of food trucks in Baltimore are coming together for “The Gathering” on Friday, July 8, 2011 from 5-10pm at Harbor East!

The best part about the neat event? That some of the proceeds will go to “There Goes My Hero“, which is a non-profit organization that works to match leukemia patients with bone marrow donors.

As many of you know, I love the Kooper’s Chowhound Burger Wagon, and visit whenever I am in the area where it is serving customers.

Iced Gems Cupcakes will be there serving their cool, yummy desserts as wel, and now Creperie Breizh is a part of it!

A bunch of newer Baltimore Food Trucks who service Downtown Baltimore will be there as well. Miss Shirley’s, Souper Freak, GrrChe and Gypsy Queen are all confirmed, as is Silver Platter, who is in this location on an almost daily basis (and whose lobster roll I hear is FABULOUS!), and has been behind the planning of this event.

The location is 421 S Central Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21231 (google map with street view). It is a vacant lot just north of the intersection of Central and Eastern Avenues. There is a parking garage directly across the street!

So enjoy the wares that Baltimore Food Trucks have to offer at this great event! Beer and wine will be for sale too!

Hunt Valley Farmers Market, Koopers Wagon and IcedGems Cupcakes

Hunt Valley Farmers Market has opened and Kooper’s Wagon and IcedGems Cupcakes truck were there to celebrate.

A few of my online friends planned a “tweetup” to enjoy some burgers and sweet treats!

It was a hot day so we sat in the shade.

The kids ran around and had fun!

This day was a sneak peek before it officially opened in June. The Farmers Market showcases local wares like beef from local farms, as well as goodies from small shops and food from the area.

We have had our Kooper’s Burger Wagon burgers before, but this was our first taste of IcedGems Cupcakes. We will be back! We split a half dozen, and they are fantastic, delicious bites of heaven!

Two kids enjoyed the birthday cake flavor, and agreed that it tasted just like the real, yummy thing. Another had the PB&J, which has jelly in the middle and peanut butter icing. Another thumbs up. I was disappointed that the one I had been drooling over, the margarita one, wasn’t on “tap” for the day, but ended up with the “Key West”, which is a key lime pie in a cupcake. It was fantastic! I also had a mocha coffee, which was delicious as well. Next time, I am hoping for the “Midnight Mint” or the margarita.

Iced Gems travels daily, but plans to be at the Hunt Valley Farmers Market on a regular basis.

The Hunt Valley Farmers Market is Thursdays from 11 am – 2 pm June through October.

Five Guys Cockeysville vs Koopers Chowhound Burger Wagon Verdict

Five Guys Cockeysville was a happening place last Thursday when my crew of people got together to give their final verdict on Five Guys Burgers vs Koopers Chowhound Burger Wagon burgers.

Through Twitter, a group of us set the date, and we sat outside to enjoy the 70+ degree weather.

FiveGuysLunch2

The verdict? Unanimous. Five Guys Burgers won.

As Derek Massey of Mid-Atlantic Settlement Services commented on my post about Five Guys over Kooper’s:

“We’re talking about the Rolls Royce of burgers here. 2 handmade, never frozen patties with cheese between them? Rolls so fresh it’s like they just popped out of the oven? Free peanuts? The burger experience to which all others are compared….”

Molly White of Molly White Marketing also joined us. Even her one year old daughter seemed to agree.

BaltimoreTom“, an infamous twitter personality, and his son joined us, as did Mario Armstrong, media personality and technology advocate, best known as the “tech guy” from CNN.

SushiGirl1223 from twitter also joined us, noting that Derek had been there also the day before. Why? Well, he loves Five Guys burgers. But also, it helped him to become “Mayor” of the Cockeysville Five Guys location on FourSquare.

Rounding out the group was our local foodie expert, Jessica Lemmo, The Baltimore Restaurant Examiner. As Jessica said, “Love my 5 Guys all the way with everything!” FiveGuysTweetup

Now, to be fair, it is a restaurant location versus a truck that cooks at individual stops. My next challenge will be to these same folks to eat at Kooper’s Tavern in Fell’s Point to taste test their burgers on site for it to be a true comparison.

However, if you are looking for a good burger in Northern Baltimore County, make sure to stop by Five Guys Burgers and Fries Cockeysville. You’ll be glad you did!

Five Guys Burgers and Fries Cockeysville is located at 10015 York Road, Cockeysville, MD 21030.

Kooper’s Chowhound Burger Wagon in Hunt Valley

On Monday, March 8, the Kooper’s Chowhound Burger Wagon was back in Hunt Valley in the parking lot behind the Verizon building.

029

I challenged a few friends from Twitter to meet me there, and it became a large, fairly impromptu “tweet-up” ending with a large group breaking bread in a nearby Hunt Valley office building!

It was a beautiful day, so the crowd starting lining up to get a taste of the delicious burgers.

Kooper’s does its’ marketing mostly using social media, with their Fan Page on Facebook, and their twitter account to notify potential customers as to where the wagon will be on each particular day.

This time I tried a Bison Burger, opting for the healthier cut of meat, but negated its’ low fat base by adding blue cheese and bacon to the toppings.

Here, Derek Massey of Mid-Atlantic Settlement Services waited for his burger, while showing off the “wagon”. 028

The group of us, most of whom met on twitter, took our burgers back to the cafeteria by Mid-Atlantic Settlement Services to enjoy the afternoon and visit with each other.

I have to say, the Bison burger was rather dry, which I know is a result of the meat being so low fat. It was still very tasty! Everyone seemed to really enjoy their burgers, though the trip has now become a challenge to determine the “better burger”, with the next tasting at the NEW Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Cockeysville this coming week.

Koopers Tavern on Thames Street in Fells Point is very well known for their terrific burgers.

They decided to take their famous burgers on the road in the form of the Kooper’s Chowhound Burger Wagon so people all over Baltimore can enjoy their award winning tastes!

The burgers are for everyone — they have angus, bison, turkey and veggie burgers! Toppings can include the basics or as interesting as blue cheese, applewood smoked bacon, peppers and jack cheese.

Exciting for some in the Northern Baltimore County area is that the wagon will be in Hunt Valley tomorrow in the rear parking lot behind the Verizon Building close to Schilling Road (map).

So if you plan to be in Hunt Valley or Cockeysville tomorrow, make sure to stop by to try one of their burgers. I may see you there!
