Towson Swim Club says it needs 135 more members or plans for the swim club will have to be scrapped.
The new members need to sign up by Feburary 29, 2012 or the project will be terminated.
According to the Towson Patch article about the issue, the Club has $318,000 in funds raised by members joining, but in applying for a new loan, plus paying for an engineering contract, they need to secure more members to make it happen.
The cost, according to the paperwork from their website, is $1,975 per household plus $250 application fee and $275 initiation fee. The charter membership may be transferable when you sell your Towson home.
Summer fees range from $495 individual memberships to $685 family memberships, with lower Senior memberships also available.
The Towson Swim Club was originally slated to open Memorial Day 2011. It was then postponed to Memorial Day 2012 when a private investor backed out. Now the opening has been pushed back another year to 2013, and only if 135 new members join by February 29, 2012.
I do truly hope that West Towson homeowners can come together and get this pool financed. It would be a wonderful additional bonus to living in West Towson.
West Towson Pool Delayed Until 2012

The West Towson Pool, called the “Towson Swim Club,” slated to open Memorial Day 2011, has pushed back its’ opening to 2012.
There were multiple obstacles causing the delay, including the Baltimore County planning and zoning, and the ravine that currently provides privacy to the Southland Hills neighborhood. The pool group wanted to build playing fields, while neighbors wanted to keep their privacy area.
Other obstacles included needing 200 more members to help fund the construction. The initial charter fee is $1,975. If members join prior to the pool’s construction, that charter membership can possibly be transferred when you sell your West Towson home.
The next obstacle for the Towson Swim Club is to obtain financing, which the club volunteer group says there are some interested banks.
The Towson Swim Club, along with the office space being built is breathing new life into the Old Towson Jail, revitalizing that corner of Bosley and Towsontown Blvd.
There are many memberships still available, if you want to join in advance. There will only be 400 memberships in total. More details and fees can be found on their site here.
Membership to the Towson Swim Club is not limited to Towson residents, so if you are interested but don’t live in the area, you may still join!

On June 15, I wrote about the Old Towson Jail‘s new life as a community pool and how charter members may be able to convey their memberships with their West Towson homes when they sell them.
The Towson Swim Club Founding Committee is having an informational meeting on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 from 7:30-9:30 pm at the Sheppard Pratt Conference Center.
At this meeting there will be architectural drawings, financial details, and membership information, plus a Q & A session at the end.
The Towson Swim Club will be constructed, owned, and managed by pool members, who are Towson residents. Charter members will have the right to transfer their pool membership to the new owners when selling their home, which could be great for their Towson house values!
Construction is set to begin next summer, and the Towson Swim Club is due to be open May 2011!
