Maryland tax free shopping week is coming next week August 8-14, 2010!

This means that qualifying clothing and shoes under $100 will not be charged the standard 6% sales tax during that time period. There is no limit to the number of items under $100 you can buy! (So yes, if you buy 10 items that are $99 each, you would save $59.40!)

The tax free shopping does not include accessories, such as scarves, hats, backpacks, headbands and the like are not included.

From the list of FAQ’s from the Comptroller:

Accessories, including jewelry, watches, watchbands, handbags, handkerchiefs, umbrellas, scarves, ties, headbands, belt buckles, and backpacks will be taxable. And special clothing or footwear designed primarily for protective use and not for normal wear, such as football pads, will be taxable.

So it does not cover everything, but it does cover most clothing — provided it is under $100.

Enjoy the tax free shopping for this one week in Maryland, and save some money!
