The Towson Circle III is a development potentially in the works for the heart of Towson with shops, eateries, and a large Cinemark Movie Theater.

The development is being put together by Heritage Properties of Towson and leasing will be done by The Cordish Companies.

Towson Circle III would be located on the 4.2 acre lot at the corner of East Joppa, Virginia, and Pennsylvania Avenues. There is currently a building there and the now-closed Burger King also sits on the lot. Here is how it looks today:

Not only will there be things to do and places to eat, there will be a 862 space parking garage to handle the expected large volume of cars.

Here is a draft of plans from the Greater Towson Council of Community Associations.

So far, according to Cordish, five bistro-type eateries have already agreed to move into the space. There will be some chain restaurants, as well as individually owned & operated ones.

This could be a great way to rebuild that area of Downtown Towson that is currently wasted space. Hopefully this will be a good & successful fit!

Towson Feet on the Street 2011

Towson Feet on the Street for 2011 kicked off last Friday and will continue through September 30 this year!

Each Friday is a block party ready to have neighbors, friends, and families come along to enjoy!

From towsonchamber.com

The block party known as Towson Feet on the Street is located on Allegheny Avenue (map) between Washington Ave & York Rd near the Towson Olympian Park in the heart of Towson.

Each Friday from 6-9:30pm, there are live bands, wine & beer, food, prizes, and kids’ activities.

The Towson Feet on the Street block parties are sponsored by the Towson Chamber of Commerce and Lite 101.9 FM.

To especially enjoy the evenings, make sure to bring your beach chairs (and blankets until it’s warmer!) to sit & enjoy the music with your friends, neighbors and visitors.

The part is located on Allegheny Avenue (map) between Washington Ave & York Rd near the new Towson Olympian Park.

Come on to Downtown Towson on Friday nights through September and join in on the good times!

Towson Roundabout Construction

The Towson Roundabout will be undergoing some construction, and it may cause some delays as you travel through Downtown Towson over the next few months.

Towson Circle image from State Highway Administration

Construction has begun but it is just the first phase, which doesn’t affect traffic as much, since the first five phases only have closures overnight from 9pm to 5am, and will not have closures over the weekend.

The last phase, six, is due to come late summer, with the project due to end at the end of the summer.

Here are the phases as they are scheduled.

Thank you to Delegate Susan Aumann for sharing this information and photo of the construction site with her Towson constituents!

Phase 1: Close right lane on westbound East Joppa Road to right lane northbound Dulaney Valley Road (MD 146)

Phase 2: Close right lane on southbound Dulaney Valley Road and detour northbound York Road (MD 45) north of roundabout
Phase 3: Close right lane on southbound York Road (north of roundabout) and detour westbound Allegheny Avenue and West Joppa Road (one-way section)
Phase 4: Close right lane on northbound York Road south of roundabout; close left lane on southbound York Road south of roundabout; close left lane on northbound Dulaney Valley Road; and detour northbound York Road north of the roundabout
Phase 5: Close right lane northbound York Road south of the roundabout, detour eastbound East Joppa Road; and close left lane of westbound East Joppa Road
Phase 6: Weekend Roundabout Closures: Close and Detour Entire Roundabout on one or two weekends for final paving work and installation of new pavement markings – projected to occur late summer 2011

So every night, it appears there will be lane closures in Towson, which can cause traffic backups. Your best bet is to avoid the area from 9pm-5am Sunday-Thursday, and as it gets closer to the end of the project, to avoid the area on the weekends.

The 44th Annual Towsontown Spring Festival is this weekend, April 30 & May 1, 2011.

towsontownspringfestival.com

The Festival kicks off with Towson Gardens Day on Thursday the 28th from 10am-3 pm with Wine & Jazz from 5-7 at the Historic Courthouse Garden. Friday night showcases a concert by Mood Swings from 5:30-9pm.

Saturday, the festival runs from 10am-7pm and Sunday is 1pm-7pm.

My son had a great time at last year’s Towsontown Spring Festival at the Moon Bounces and Carnival Games areas — and loved seeing the ponies. These activities are an extra charge, but children love it!

He also loved seeing the firetrucks that both block off the streets and are there for show.

The food is wonderful — the smells wafting through Downtown Towson are amazing!

The Freedom Fun Zone, sponsored and staffed by the Maryland National Guard will have NASCAR racing cars to view as well as inflatable obstacle course and Halo Jumper.

Mix 106.5 has their stage with $2 entry, and Crushing Day plays Saturday 1-3pm, 2U from 3:30-6:30, and Sunday, Mobtown Saints from 1:30-3:30, and Reagan Years from 4-6:30.

Z104.3 is having a Singfest — a singing contest where the winner wins $300 and a trip to the next American Singing Competition!

98 Rock has their Beer Garden for $2 entry, where music & bands play.

There is so much going on, and so many activities for the weekend.

Come to Downtown Towson this weekend and enjoy the fun!

New Safeway in Towson is Open

The new Safeway in Towson is now open! On Thursday, August 19, it opened its’ doors to an enthusiastic crowd of people.

I finally was able to get over there today, and it is GORGEOUS! The staff was so polite and helpful — the food selection great, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats.

The funny part is that my May 6, 2010 post about the New Safeway in Towson in the Old CompUSA and Linen N Things Building has been wreaking a bit of havoc on my office since Thursday.

Since the Safeway is so new, it is not up on the Safeway website, nor is it on the Local Business Results in Google yet. The reason this has caused some issues, is that my blog post comes up at the top of the Google Search engine. People have been clicking on my blog and calling the only phone number they can find — my Keller Williams Timonium office. Needless to say, my office has been getting numerous calls from people trying to get more information about the Towson Safeway!

I ended up going back and changing that post, since we called the Parkville Safeway and they gave us the number for the new Towson one, so that people could call the right place to get the information they need.

Though I love the new Towson Safeway, I don’t have the answers they need — but I can help with Towson real estate!

Towson was named CNNMoney.com’s #14 Top Affluent Singles City!

CNNMoney.com named the top 25 cities for highest income per single households, and Towson, MD was #14 in their list.

This is due to the median family income of $102,302, and the 35.4% rate of singles versus married households. Many Towson professors at the nearby Towson University and Goucher College live close to the schools.

Towson Feet on the Street is noted as a big plus for singles living in Towson, as well as the restaurants and bars along Allegheny Avenue.

New Safeway in Towson in Old CompUSA and Linens N Things Building

May 6, 2010 by

A new Safeway is going in on York Road in Towson in the Old CompUSA and Linens N Things building right by the on-ramp to 695 East.

Scheduled to open later this year, this will be the only grocery store besides Superfresh in Dulaney Plaza in the Downtown Towson area. *UPDATE! On August 17, 2010, the new Towson Safeway opened. My office is getting a lot of calls since their # isn’t posted online yet — I went today and got their # for my readers’ convenience. The Towson Safeway phone # is 410-296-2267. Thank you!*

The space is just under 60,000 square feet according to the Costar Group.

This is exciting news for Towson residents who have not had much in the way of choices for groceries in the Towson center. In Ruxton there is Graul’s and further east in Towson Place there is a Superfresh.

The new Towson Safeway will be in the Radcliffe Shopping Center, which currently hosts a CVS, Wachovia, & M&T Bank.

The new Safeway Supermarket in Towson is scheduled to open in Fall 2010.

A great additional reason to live in Towson!
