The attack that has taken down Baltimore City’s systems is now affecting Baltimore City buyers and sellers.

Baltimore City cannot process lien certificates, deeds of trust, deeds of trust for recordation, or even water bills at the moment, which means that title companies cannot get the paperwork they need in order to complete closing.

Many of the major title insurance companies issued bulletins on May 13, 2019, forbidding their title insurance agents from issuing title insurance policies for any Baltimore City properties until the City’s ransomware issue is rectified.

At this point, Baltimore City cannot give a timeline as to when they may be able to be back up and running. See more on CBS Baltimore’s website.

For now, this means that most Baltimore City houses under contract cannot go to closing until the City is back online.
