Baltimore will be having a Star Spangled Weekend September 7-9, 2012 at Fort McHenry, commemorating Defenders’ Day, when Fort McHenry was bombarded, and the “Star Spangled Banner” was written.

On Friday evening, there will be a ceremonial parade of the flag, marched to the Inner Harbor, where a ceremony will take place. Those involved in the re-enactment of the events of Defenders’ Day will then board boats and bring the flag back to Fort McHenry, as was done so many years ago.

All weekend at Fort McHenry, there will be cannon firing demonstrations, a dress parade, flag raising, and “living history interpreters.”

Saturday evening will feature a full re-enactment of the bombarding of Fort McHenry, as well as tactical demonstrations, and music. This will commence around 6:00pm, and will end with a fireworks display, celebrating the successful defense of the Fort in 1814.
