Maryland tax free shopping week 2014 is August 10-16, 2014.

What is Tax Free Shopping Week?

Tax Free Shopping week means that qualifying clothes and shoes under $100 each will not have the regular 6% sales tax added to the purchase during the tax free shopping time period.

This means you can buy any number of individual items under $100 – there is no limit!

The tax exemption does not include accessories such as backpacks, scarves, and headbands, or items designed specifically for safety, such as pads, helmets and equipment. These items would still be taxable.

The comptroller’s site has a very comprehensive list of what is included in the exemption vs what is still taxable during this time period.

Here are some examples: Athletic socks – Exempt. Helmets – Still have to pay taxes. Caps and hats – Exempt. Head bands, purses, earrings – Still taxable.

So, if you have not gotten back-to-school clothes, need some new work clothes, or just want to build your fall wardrobe, August 10-16, 2014 is the time to shop in Maryland!

Tax Free Shopping in Maryland begins on the second Sunday of each August and runs to the following Saturday, per legislation that was passed in 2007.
