What is Dopamine Decor?
The Cleveland Clinic states that “Dopamine is a neurotransmitter made in your brain. It plays a role as a “reward center” and in many body functions, including memory, movement, motivation, mood, attention and more…Dopamine is known as the “feel-good” hormone. It gives you a sense of pleasure. It also gives you the motivation to do something when you’re feeling pleasure.”
So, Dopamine Decor is home decor that is designed to make you feel good. The idea behind Dopamine Decor is that if your home doesn’t feel good to you, it won’t look good to you.
Using the Dopamine Decor theory, you should fill your home with items that bring you joy – and therefore a dopamine rush.
Dopamine decor can combine bold colors and fun patterns. But, on the other hand, if bold colors and patterns don’t bring you joy, then choose more muted tones. Maybe you need a relaxing space and colors. Then go with that! The key is choosing colors that make you feel happy.
You can also use home accessories or artwork to infuse dopamine decor into your home. Choose artwork that makes you smile. Decorate with things that bring happy memories like personal photos of good times.
Lighting is important. Choose a temperature of lighting that makes you happy. Sometimes a warmer bulb or even some LED colored light strips can bring happiness to your space.
I love this idea of Dopamine Decor because it makes your space happy for YOU. (Just be prepared that later, if you want to sell your home, you may need to do some neutralizing to make it a blank space for the next owner to make it happy for THEM!)
