New Safeway in Towson is Open

The new Safeway in Towson is now open! On Thursday, August 19, it opened its’ doors to an enthusiastic crowd of people.

I finally was able to get over there today, and it is GORGEOUS! The staff was so polite and helpful — the food selection great, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats.

The funny part is that my May 6, 2010 post about the New Safeway in Towson in the Old CompUSA and Linen N Things Building has been wreaking a bit of havoc on my office since Thursday.

Since the Safeway is so new, it is not up on the Safeway website, nor is it on the Local Business Results in Google yet. The reason this has caused some issues, is that my blog post comes up at the top of the Google Search engine. People have been clicking on my blog and calling the only phone number they can find — my Keller Williams Timonium office. Needless to say, my office has been getting numerous calls from people trying to get more information about the Towson Safeway!

I ended up going back and changing that post, since we called the Parkville Safeway and they gave us the number for the new Towson one, so that people could call the right place to get the information they need.

Though I love the new Towson Safeway, I don’t have the answers they need — but I can help with Towson real estate!

Did you bring your Flipcam in and take some video?

No Derek, just my iphone. :) That is really funny about the man in the Wegmans’s in Hunt Valley. Did you take a pic of him?

It is pretty nice, but I hope the novelty wears off pretty soon because it makes traffic at the turn-in to that shopping center on Fairmount pretty hairy, and living right there in Towson Park it gets a little frustrating trying to get home! I hope it makes the Superfresh step up it’s game, from what I saw of prices I don’t know that it will be less expensive once the grand opening promos have worn off, but we’ll see!

Hi Patty, I can imagine! It wasn’t too bad this morning when I was there. I heard a rumor that the Superfresh right there may be one of the ones they are planning to close. It is rumor at this point, but I could see that happening…
Hopefully traffic will get better around there — the construction on Fairmount today didn’t help — maybe that has been some of the issue? That & Joppa Rd work?

That’s awesome. The same thing happened to me when I posted the information on a new Harris Teeter and when Five Guys first came to Charlotte. WOOT Marney!!!

Thanks, Jonathan! When Five Guys first came to Cockeysville, I had a lot of traffic because it wasn’t on their site or Google, but we didn’t have the phone calls. This was really funny. Yesterday, I almost answered the office phone, “Good Afternoon, Towson Safeway, how may I help you?” :)

I found the Safeway gorgeous just like you did, but only esthetically. The employees for the most part leave an awful lot to be desired. I usually give a new store a few months before the employees really start to be careless and the store goes downhill. I felt the store right off the bat was going downhill. The employees were standing around talking too much to eachother (mainly the cashiers and cafe workers) and just had an attitude of not caring. Many of the employees tonight were sitting around in the Cafe. I’m not sure what they were doing. Also the only cashier that was open had all of these papers strewn on the belt. It was so inappropriate. She seemed annoyed when I put my groceries on it. Needless to say I probably won’t be back. The items are overpriced too, so I will continue to shop at Wegman’s. Oh and when I called the Parkville Safeway a few days ago to find out where the Towson Safeway was located, no one in customer service answered. I then called the pharmacy, and finally someone answered. The man there told me the Towson Safeway was not open yet but would be by the end of the month. :-/

Wow, Rhonda, that is a shame! I am sorry to hear it! I have to admit, I went mid morning on a Monday, and everyone was helpful and accommodating — they weren’t busy so that could have been why…hopefully those evening employees won’t be there much longer if that is their behavior — I can tell you there are a lot of applications in for the deli counter (according to the # of calls we got!) :) .
Thanks for letting me know. That is very disappointing to hear!

I will not shop here anymore! The store itself very nice. The employees are not!

So obvious they do not want to be there! Customer service is terrible!

Hi Dorothy, I am so sad to hear that! Did you speak to a manager? I had a minor issue, and they jumped to fix it. In general, they want to be very helpful, and would be very disappointed to hear of your experience — and I am sure they would do whatever they could to make things better…
