The Maryland property tax rate is not as high as many believe.

I hear pretty often that the Maryland property tax rate is one of the highest in the country. Though it may feel that way, currently, it ranks #20, according to this post in the Patch. There are 19 other states with property tax rates higher than Maryland!

Which states cracked the top 10 in highest property tax rates?

  1. New Jersey
  2. Illinois
  3. New Hampshire
  4. Wisconsin
  5. Vermont
  6. Texas
  7. Nebraska
  8. Connecticut
  9. Ohio
  10. Rhode Island

Maryland comes in at #20, and yes, there is an increase in Baltimore County property taxes this year.

That being said, with the rate increase, don’t forget to apply for the Homestead Tax Credit for your primary Maryland residence.

In Baltimore County, if you feel your assessment may be too high, and would like to try to appeal a Baltimore County tax assessment, read more and determine if it may be the right route for you.

Maryland property tax rates may not be in the highest 19, but it doesn’t mean they are inexpensive. Review the above linked posts to discover if you have a potential eligibility for any tax credits or the possibility of an appeal.
